Das kann's auch nicht sein. Ich habe gerade meinen Kollegen befragt, und ja, er hatte Mozilla 1.6 installiert.
Ich habe noch weiter im Usenet gestöbert: die gleichen Symptome (Moz startet nicht, keine Rückmeldung in der Konsole) beklagen nicht nicht nur Mozilla 1.7-, sondern auch Firefox 0.9x- und Thunderbird 0.7-User. In allen Fällen löst es sich, wenn die Applikation zuerst als root gestartet wird.
Steht sogar hochoffiziell auf der
Firefox-Seite:
"If Firefox 0.9 is placed in a location with limited access privileges, it should be run by a user with access to that location first, so that all initial startup files are generated. There may be issues still where if a restricted-access user is the first to run the app, these files may not be generated properly and Firefox may enter an infinite restart loop. This will be fixed in a future release."
Wenn es bei euch auch als root nicht klappt, könnten wir noch untersuchen, ob eventuell Abhängigkeiten nicht erfüllt sind. ldd /usr/lib/mozilla-1.7/mozilla-bin gibt darüber Auskunft.
